Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted? it is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men. Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid. Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven (Matthew 5:13-16).
We have a divine mandate to affect and impact the
world for God. As salt, we are to preserve and add flavour to life. As light, we
are a source of guidance and direction to the world. Question is, are we living
that mandate bestowed on us in Christ? Because we carry the light of Christ, we
are also a source of light to the world —our light should brighten the world.
Naturally, light dispel darkness. As
Christians we should also chase and drive away darkness. Evil, sin and
wickedness should not prevail in our lives and the lives we encounter.
“Let your light shine…”: In a hurting and
sinful world, we are to be a source of flavour on earth. Where there is hurt,
we bring relief. Where there is despondency, we bring a message of hope. By the
power of the Holy Spirit, we are a source of nourishment for people who are
thirsty and burdened in life. Yield to the Holy Spirit and let Him take
absolute and total control of your life. Remember, we are representing Christ
and I believe the “mission statement” of Christ is equally our mission
statement:
The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised, To preach the acceptable year of the Lord (Luke 4:18).
Step out and represent Christ! You are the salt and light of the world
